Seborrheic dermatitis is a common inflammatory skin disorder that mostly affects the scalp, face, and upper chest, parts of the body with a high density of oil glands. It is typified by flaky skin and red, scaly spots that are frequently accompanied by irritation and itching. Although the precise origin of seborrheic dermatitis is unknown, a number of variables are thought to be involved, including as an aberrant immunological response, anomalies in oil gland secretion, and an overabundance of yeast (Malassezia). Seborrheic dermatitis can be brought on by or made worse by a number of things, including hormone fluctuations, stress, the cold, and certain illnesses including Parkinson's disease or HIV/AIDS.
